City of Mineola 2025 Elections

The City of Mineola is a General Law Municipality in the State of Texas. A mayor and six council members, acting as the elected representatives of the citizens of Mineola, formulate public policy to meet community needs and assure orderly development in the City. The City Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, Municipal Court Judge and various citizen boards and commissions. The City Council’s public policy activities include: adopting the City’s annual budget and establishing general objectives; reviewing and adopting all ordinances and resolutions; and approving purchases and contracts as prescribed by State Law.  Terms of office for elected officials is two years.  Because terms are staggered, an election is held every year on the first Saturday in May.

Are You Eligible?
To run for office in a general law city in Texas, you must, among other requirements:

  • be a citizen of the United States;

  • be at least 18 years old on the date of the election; and

  • be a registered voter and have lived in the State of Texas for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the filing date for the election, and in your city or ward for at least 6 months prior to the filing date for the election.
