The mission of The Mineola Fire Department is to provide and deliver exceptional emergency fire and rescue services to the citizens of Mineola, Wood County, and other areas of the state of Texas with a fire department that is professionally trained and equipped, progressive and open to needs of our citizens and to the provide educational training for fire prevention and life safety to the citizens that we proudly serve now and in the future.

In May of 1906, the City Council discussed setting up a Hook & Ladder Company and referred the matter to the fire committee. In January of 1906, a fire gong had been installed at the city well.  C. B. Carr installed the gong and his charge for this service was $6.75.  In July of 1906, a committee of aldermen were empowered to purchase fire hose and other necessary equipment for fire protection.  The equipment was received in 1908. On May 1, 1907, a fire company was organized as the Mineola Fire Company by S. L. Bradford, Mineola druggist, who was chiefly responsible and served as fire chief for a number of years.  This company had no connection to the City.

Today we are a combination department with 4 paid personnel and 25 volunteers. Mineola Fire Department strives to educate and train our firefighters to the highest level possible.  Mineola Fire Department has regular training drills held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.  Mineola Fire Department is a member of Texas Commission on Fire Protection, State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals Association of Texas, National Fire Protection Association, Northeast Texas Firemen’s Association, Wood County Fire Chief's Association and other state and national associations.

Mineola Fire Department has Hazardous Material Technicians, Underwater Rescue and Recovery SCUBA Divers. The department is not only trained in structural firefighting but also Wildland Firefighting, High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Agriculture Rescue, Urban Search and Rescue, Wildland Search and Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, Passenger and Freight Train Rescue, Mass Casualty Events, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Incident Safety Officer and all firefighters are trained and operate under the Incident Command System.

Mineola Fire Department is a registered First Responder Agency with the Texas Department of State Health Services and have certified E.M.S. personnel ranging from EMR up to EMT-Paramedic.

Mineola Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. is a Texas Chartered non-profit corporation and determined to be tax exempt by the Internal Revenue Service under Section 501 C (3).

Emergency Alert Notification Mineola/Wood County CODE RED WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE AS OF FEBRUARY 15, 2020 The Code Red emergency notification service currently used in Mineola, TX, Wood County, will expire on February 15, 2020. Wood County is now changing from “Code Red” to “Rave Mobil Safety” to offer more service and better options for coverage in the region. Rave Mobility set itself apart by offering UNLIMITED Minutes and texting. IPAWS and Weather Warning were included and RAVE offered more users on the platform so more cities could participate. If you are currently signed up with Code Red, you will receive a notification at 1:05 pm February 11 through February 15 with instructions on how to register. This service is funded by a Homeland Security grant through East Texas Council of Governments. It is a telephone communication service that allows the county/city Emergency Management Coordinator to quickly notify citizens about emergency situations such as:

• Tornados and storm events;

• Drinking water contamination;

• Utility outage; Evacuation notice and route;

• Missing person;

• Fires or floods; Bomb threat;

• Hostage situation;

• Chemical spill or gas leak; and

• Other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential.

If you have previously signed up for Code Red, you will still need to sign up for Rave Mobile Safety.
