Dramatic clouds provided a perfect backdrop for the 1888 Plaza Dedication speakers this morning. Mayor Jayne Lankford spoke of the importance of the Meredith Foundation to our town. Public Works Director Kyle McCoy talked about the contractors and engineers involved. Distinguished speakers were also Jim Phillips, Landmark Commission chairman; Gordon Tiner, MEDC president; Bob Smith, Meredith Foundation chairman; County Judge Kevin White; Corinne Murdock of Representative Cole
Hefner’s office. City Manager Mercy Rushing spoke of the vision for the property and the new plaza. Mayor Lankford, Bob Smith and Gordon Tiner unveiled the dedication plaque at the plaza. Owen Tiner, Marketing and Tourism Director and Assistant EDC, served as master of ceremonies. Council people, School Superintendent Cody Mize, city volunteer board members, downtown business owners, community supporters, high school volunteers and city staff were among those attending. Finally, the celebration was over just in time for a very special photo session.
