The annual window decorating contest judging took place yesterday evening, and we had an esteemed panel of judges: Gwen Winters, Assistant Vice President at Jarvis Christian University; Terry Eaton, Mineola City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem; and Angela Albers, Wood County District Attorney. The judges were expertly escorted through Mineola by Doris Newman, the City of Mineola’s Main Street Manager and Historical Preservation Officer, to ensure every window was reviewed and no one was overlooked.
The judges certainly had a challenging task, as our merchants did an outstanding job decorating their windows. Their creativity and effort have truly enhanced the beauty and holiday spirit of our historic downtown. A big thank you to all who participated — your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed! The winners will be announced at the Magical Mineola Event!
Blue Mudbone is set to perform this Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Magical Mineola Event! 🎶✨ Come out and enjoy an evening of incredible music, fun festivities, and great company. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this unforgettable experience! Magical Mineola is set to be a fun filled, festive evening!
Blue Mudbone was originally formed in 2019 and by a group of four Mineola HS graduates. The band performs locally (churches, various music venues, and special events) and is currently the House Band for The Beckham Hotel in Mineola. The band is made up of Jay Horton (guitar/banjo/vocals), Joe Williams (guitar/mandolin/vocals), Roy Dean (bass guitar/vocals), & Ken Smith (harmonica /vocals). The band recently added Rodney Mize (Drums and vocals). Rodney’s roots are in Mineola but spent his younger years in Amarillo and got here as fast as he could. The band’s music is made up of 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s acoustic rock, blues, bluegrass, gospel, and country. Horton is a retired Methodist Minister and has played professionally for several years including several years with his band in Houston, Sundog Weaver. Williams a retired bank holding company CEO/Owner, has been performing for over 50 years including many years with his family gospel group, The Williams Family Trio, and later with The Canaan-Heirs Gospel Quartet. Williams has played in church bands for many years. Mize had been active in music all his life (vocals, percussion, piano, and brass) and has performed in and around the Mineola area since his arrival. Dean and Smith, both are retired railroad employees. Dean is relatively new to music performance and Smith has performed locally in churches and civic events. The band emphasizes fun and audience participation. For booking info call Joe Williams at 214-850-0832.
We hope to see you there!
